Your numbers
- Menu price needed
- ₹277.78
- Markup on your price
- +38.9%
- Commission on that price
- ₹77.78
At 28% commission, list it at ₹277.78 to take home ₹200.
₹200 / (1 - 0.28) = ₹277.78. Adding 28% instead gives ₹256, which leaves ₹184.32, ₹15.68 short, because the commission is also taken on the increase.
Illustrative example
Keep 200 at a 25% commission.
These numbers are an illustration, not a benchmark. Your own numbers will differ.
- You take home ₹200 today
- Commission 25% of the listed price
- You keep 75% of the listed price, so divide: ₹200 / 0.75 = ₹266.67, about ₹267.
- Check: 25% of ₹266.67 is ₹66.67, which leaves ₹200.
- Adding 25% gives ₹250, which leaves only ₹187.50.
| Commission rate | Markup needed |
|---|---|
| 10% | +11.1% |
| 15% | +17.6% |
| 18% | +22% |
| 20% | +25% |
| 25% | +33.3% |
| 28% | +38.9% |
| 30% | +42.9% |
| 35% | +53.8% |
Why adding the rate is not enough.
The commission is taken from the listed price. Raise the price and the commission rises with it, so part of every increase goes to the commission too.
Divide, do not add. To keep 200 at a 25% commission, you keep 75% of the listed price. 200 / 0.75 = 266.67. Adding 25% gives 250, and 25% of 250 leaves 187.50.
The markup grows faster than the rate. 28% commission needs a 38.9% markup. 30% needs 42.9%. The formula is rate / (1 minus rate).

What this calculator does not know.
It does not know your contract. Tax on the commission, payment charges, ads and discounts you fund are not in the sum unless you add them to the rate.
It does not know whether your agreement has rules about menu prices, or how customers will react to a higher price. Check your contract before you change prices.
It does not include your food cost, packing or rider cost. For those, use the menu price and food cost calculator and the delivery cost per order calculator.
Questions, answered.
Divide your price by 1 minus the commission rate. At 25%, a dish you sell at 200 needs a listed price of 200 / 0.75 = 266.67 to leave you 200. That is a markup of 33.3%.
You keep 72% of the listed price. 1 / 0.72 = 1.389, so the price must go up by 38.9% for 72% of it to equal your old price.
You take home less than before. At 25%, 200 plus 25% is 250, and after a 25% commission you keep 187.50, which is 12.50 short.
