What a Rs 312 Order Keeps After a Delivery App Commission

A Rs 312 order at a reported 8, 18 and 28 percent commission leaves Rs 287.04, 255.84 and 224.64. The sums, the sources, and how to work out your own number.

By Ordrio teamUpdated

A customer pays 312 rupees for an order through a delivery app. How much of it reaches the shop? The answer depends on a commission rate that differs from one contract to the next. This article does the arithmetic at three rates that have been reported, says where each figure comes from, and shows how to work out your own number from your own records.

How to read this article

  • Reported figures name the publication and date. They are claims made by others, and we have not verified them.
  • Ordrio data is labelled as such.
  • Arithmetic is ours. Anyone can repeat it with a calculator.

Where the commission range comes from

The Free Press Journal reported on 30 July 2026 that Bengaluru hotel associations say restaurants pay commissions of 8 to 28 percent on delivery apps. The claim is attributed to S. Subramanya Holla, president of BBHA, a Bengaluru hotel association. We are not saying this range applies to your shop. We use it because it is the range that was put on record.

Where Rs 312 comes from

Rs 312 is Ordrio data. It is the median of store medians for delivered orders, across shops on Ordrio in India, for the 12 months to 6 October 2026. We call it a Rs 312 order. It is not a restaurant order. The same figure is used in our article on what 107,000 orders show.

The arithmetic

This table takes a Rs 312 order and applies only the commission. Nothing else is removed yet.

Commission rate (as reported)Kept by the appLeft with the shop
8 percentRs 24.96Rs 287.04
18 percentRs 56.16Rs 255.84
28 percentRs 87.36Rs 224.64

The sum is order value times the rate. For 18 percent: 312 x 0.18 = 56.16. Subtract that from 312 and Rs 255.84 is left.

Same order, same food. Between about Rs 25 and Rs 87 goes elsewhere before the shop pays for ingredients, packing or tax. The gap between the 8 percent row and the 28 percent row is Rs 62.40 on one order.

What else is in the picture

The table shows commission only. Three more things sit on top, and none of them is in the table.

Food cost, packing and tax. The Rs 287.04 or Rs 224.64 is the amount left before the shop pays for ingredients, packing material and tax.

Rider cost. Where the shop pays for delivery, that cost comes out of the same amount. Our delivery cost per order calculator works through that part with your own numbers.

Ads and payment charges. The associations' demands, as reported, include transparent ad charges, payment gateway fees and other deductions, and detailed settlement reports. We cannot tell you what you pay on these. Only your settlement report shows it.

One more claim, treated as a question

The same reports quote another association leader, PC Rao, saying a restaurant earning Rs 1 lakh through one app is often left with about Rs 40,000. This is one person's claim and it has not been verified. We treat it as a question to check against your own records, and not as a fact.

The customer fee is a separate matter

Restaurant India reported on 25 March 2026 that platform fees paid by customers rose in March 2026. One app went from Rs 14.99 to Rs 17.58 per order, and another from Rs 12.50 to Rs 14.90 before GST. Reports treat GST on these figures differently, so we say only that the fee is about Rs 15 to 18 per order.

The customer pays this fee. It is not taken from the restaurant, so it is not part of the commission in the table. It is part of what an order costs.

How to work out your own number

You need one settlement report. Take your last two weeks of orders.

  1. List your last two weeks of orders from the delivery app.
  2. Find your contract rate. Multiply the order value of those orders by it. This is the commission.
  3. Add every other deduction on the report: ad charges, payment charges, anything else listed.
  4. Add the total of all deductions.
  5. Divide by the number of orders.

The result is your real cost per order from the app. Then remember what sits on top of it: packing, taxes and rider costs.

What we do not know

  • Your commission rate.
  • What you pay after ads and payment charges.
  • Whether the reported 8 to 28 percent range applies to any particular shop.
  • Whether the Rs 1 lakh to about Rs 40,000 claim holds for any restaurant.
